Long Covid Symptoms
Although most people who get COVID-19 recover quickly, for some, the effects of the virus can last for weeks or months. This is known as “Long COVID”.
These health issues are sometimes also called Post COVID-19 Conditions.
They’re generally considered to be effects of the disease that persist for more than 4 weeks after having been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Older individuals and those with comorbidities are the most likely to experience lingering COVID-19 symptoms, but even young, otherwise healthy people can suffer from Long COVID. It has been seen not only in those who had moderate or severe COVID-19 but also amongst those who had a milder experience.
One may feel the following symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath or difficult breathing
- Cough
- Anxiety and depression
- Heart palpitations
- Chest pain
- Joint or muscle pain
- Memory, concentration or sleep – not being able to think straight or focus (‘brain fog’)
- Distortion to your sense of smell
If you think you have a post-COVID-19 condition, consult your doctor about options for managing and treating your symptoms.
A health check-up after recovering from COVID-19 can also help assess the impact that the infection has had on your body.
