There was a drastic drop in the positivity rate in 2020, corresponding to the COVID-19 outbreak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2240\" src=\"https:\/\/suburban-blog.abymtech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/1-300x135.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"856\" height=\"385\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/1-300x135.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/1.webp 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The male to female ratio also fluctuated between 1.17 and 1.29 between 2015 and 2019. This ratio also showed a spike in 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2241\" src=\"https:\/\/suburban-blog.abymtech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/3-300x140.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"829\" height=\"387\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/3-300x140.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/3.webp 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 829px) 100vw, 829px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2242\" src=\"https:\/\/suburban-blog.abymtech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/4-300x204.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"578\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/4-300x204.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.suburbandiagnostics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/4.webp 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our data is concordant with the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program figures which showed a massive 77% drop in the number of cases for Maharashtra in 2020 \u2013 our data showed a dip by 73%. Similar dips were seen in other states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most probable cause is a lower transmission of the vector due to lockdown and social distancing and stringent hygiene measures implemented during the COVID-19. In previous years, major transmissions were seen to happen in schools, marketplaces and workplaces. Due to the pandemic, such foci of transmission did not happen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Movement of infected humans has played an important role in the spread of dengue. The unprecedented decreases in travel volume and distance induced by lockdown also impacted dengue transmission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it should be noted that the positive effects of lockdown on dengue transmission are unlikely to be long lasting.
