Allergy Test

An allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system.Allergic reactions occur when a person’s immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment.’Common allergic triggersExternal reactions such as House dust mites, Pollen, Cat dander, Dog dander, Mold, Cockroaches can cause allergies.

Consuming Milk, Hen eggs, Peanuts, Tree nuts (such as walnuts or almonds), Fish, Shellfish, Soy and Wheat are common allergic triggers for some people.

Common allergy symptoms

  • Blocked or runny nose.
  • Sneezing, waking up watery and itchy red eyes.
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea.
  • Difficulty in breathing. Wheezing.
  • Itchy, dry, red skin. Usually on hands, neck face and legs.
  • Appearance of blisters on the skin.

Individual allergens add up to symptoms

Allergens-individual
Patients with poly-sensitization may not display symptoms until their combined exposure to several individual allergens pushes them over the symptom threshold.

Is medical history sufficient?

  • More than 50% of the population may suffer from allergy-like symptoms, but only about 1 in 4 suffers from IgE-mediated allergy.
  • 80% of allergic patients are poly-sensitized. Today’s average primary care patient is sensitized to four or more allergens.
  • Combined sensitization can act in unison and it is therefore important to map the total allergen load.

ImmunoCAP
ImmunoCAP is an allergy blood test from Suburban Diagnostics that can help detect if aImmunoCAPpatient has allergies and accurately diagnose the cause of it. Based on the result, the doctor can craft an individual action plan and prescribe simple measures to reduce exposure to the identified triggers. (Example: excluding specific foods from the diet).

Gold Standard Technology
It is the only specific IgE assay to receive USFDA approval to quantitatively report its detection limit 0.1kU/l. This is based on CLSI/NCCLS-17A limits of detection and quantication guidelines of October 2004.

WHO recommends cut off limit 0.35 kU/l and it is the only device, which follows WHO calibration norms.ImmunoCAP-logo

ImmunoCAP Benefits

  • Quick and easy
  • Single blood sample required
  • Does not interfere with ongoing medication
  • Carries no risk of severe allergic reactions
  • Safe and reliable medication for adults and children
  • Gives a truly quantitative IgE antibody test result
  • Identifies the underlying cause of allergy enabling the best treatment

Value of ImmunoCAP® results

  • Show patient’s baseline / profile of IgE antibodies
  • Evaluate which allergens are the most probable for causing symptoms
  • Evaluate if specific immunotherapy (SIT) is an option

Follow changes over time to:

  • Reflect the effect of and compliance with allergen avoidance / reduction
  • Evaluate tolerance development (food allergy, SIT)
  • Optimize medical strategies
  • Avoid unnecessary food challenges

Value of low IgE antibody levels? (0.1 – 0.5 kUA/l)

The degree of sensitization is very low & the relation to symptoms is uncommon.

However, low levels may predict which allergens could cause problems in the future. It will also help increase awareness regarding the allergens that are of interest in order to follow the development of sensitization. It may be important for young children and may appear even before symptoms have developed.

Phadiatop (Allergy Screening Test)

allergy-flowchart

Atopy grading with Phadiatop®/Phadiatop® Infant

  • A blood test designed to differentiate between atopic and non-atopic patients.
  • Demonstrates the presence of IgE antibodies to common inhalant allergens.
  • Acts as an objective and reliable first step when testing for allergy.

Presence of IgE antibodies always implies a risk!

Increased concentration of IgE antibodies = Increased probability of clinical symptoms
